The Aww Shucks Corn Harvest is a farm-to-table community event that takes corn straight from the fields and puts it directly into the hands of the people of Amarillo. Since 2012, Snack Pak 4 Kids has partnered with local farmers in order to benefit the Amarillo community.
Volunteers of all ages get together in the fall to harvest corn from Wildorado fields and share it with the community. Volunteers from schools, including students, teachers and staff harvest corn from one field while the general public harvests a second field.
After harvesting, students deliver the corn to their neighborhoods. The corn harvested from the second field is distributed to schools.
In 2016, approximately 2,400 families benefitted from this community program. Not only does the harvest provide children and their families with food, but it also provides students an opportunity to learn about how and where corn is grown, gain leadership experience and serve their communities.
