Dr. West.jpgMy husband, Randy, grew up in poverty. He didn’t really know that. He was adopted into a loving family, so – as far as he was concerned – he hit the jackpot.

I remember Randy’s mom was a wizard with Spam, beans, and rice. I also remember a time before we were married, when he and I were having dinner with family friends who were longtime ranchers. Steak was on the menu, as it always was.

Randy committed the cardinal sin of the beef industry. He ordered his steak “well done” and then asked for a bottle of Ketchup. Randy’s childhood experience with meat meant that it was cheap and would need lots of condiments.

The best cuts of meat are expensive and, in a world where money is tight, there’s no room for extravagance with food.

That’s why I appreciate Dyron Howell and all of the many volunteers and donors with Snack Pak 4 Kids. They care about
quality. They dote on our Amarillo ISD scholars just like my grandmother did me. Cooking a special meal was her way of showing that I was important.

In partnership with agri-businesses in the Texas Panhandle, Snack Pak has cooked up another quality product for students. Educators and parents understand that children need protein, and the newly developed Beef Stik provides
quality protein with 100% premium beef chuck roast and brisket.

Everyone associated with Snack Pak lives this mission daily:

AT SNACK PAK 4 KIDS, EVERY STUDENT IS TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT AS WE WORK TOGETHER TO END WEEKEND HUNGER BY PROVIDING CHILDREN WITH BRAND NEW, BRAND-NAME FOOD.

Thank you, Snack Pak 4 Kids, for valuing children as my grandmother did. Your partnerships with school districts across the state of Texas remind us that, just like Randy,
we hit the jackpot.

Dr. West started her career as an elementary teacher in Plainview before moving to Amarillo in 2008 to become principal at Travis Middle School. In 2013, Dr. West was named Executive Director of Student Performance for AISD’s Caprock Cluster.

For Dr. West, it’s always been “all about our kids.” Since becoming AISD Superintendent, Dr. West has already set the stage to build leadership capacity in staff and help student scholars graduate prepared for success. She started the Superintendent’s Ambassadors student leadership program and also Key Communicators, a cadre of teachers who work with her to share the positive stories happening daily in AISD classrooms.

Dr. West and her husband Randy have two grown daughters, Amber and Amanda, and two grandchildren, Nova and Aria.

Try a premium chuck roast and brisket Beef Stik for yourself – and help a child in your community! When you buy an SP4K Beef Stik, a beef stick of the same quality is given to a child in need.
